Our beloved mother and grandmother, Bonnie F. Layne, passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024. She was a member of South Whitwell Baptist Church for over 50 years. Over the years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, and secretary.
Bonnie was an avid reader. She loved historical fiction books, but most of all, she loved reading her bible. She kept her bible beside her chair along with dozens of devotionals.
She enjoyed cooking and watching cooking shows. She knew just how to “doctor” food, even the meals at the Senior Citizens Center. No one cooked like she did, and she would let you know it. Along with cooking, Bonnie had a talent in quilt making. She spent countless hours working on quilts with her friends at the center.
She never said no to an adventure--whether it was traveling or shopping. New places meant new places to shop. She wanted to see the world and encouraged us to do the same.
Those who knew her, knew she had a personality like no other. People often said the mold was broken when she was born. She was vivacious, witty, and kind. She was honest to a fault, so if you didn’t want to know, you shouldn’t have asked. But most of all, she had a heart for the Lord and was ready to be with Him. What joy she must’ve felt the moment she saw His face! Her quick-witted side probably beamed, “Well, what took you so long?”
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Layne; parents, Stanley & Ruby Roberts; grandson, Donald Chad Melton; son-in-law, Red Melton.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter Tina Melton, son, Joey (Virginia) Layne; sisters, Linda Ann Barnes, Bobbie Sue “Jay” Mayberry; brother, Benny Roberts; grandchildren, Farrah “Buffy” (Jon) Morrison, Kirsten (Barrett) Long, David (Ashley) Layne, Rachel (Tony) Mercer, Jonathan Layne; great grandchildren, Ian Morrison, Natalee Layne, Kasen Long, Madison Layne, Sophie Hicks, Kenzie Mercer & Scarlett Mercer.
Family will receive friends 4-8PM, Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Graveside services will be at 2PM, Sunday, April 21, 2024 with Rev. Roy Terry & Rev. Larry Meade officiating. Interment at Whitwell Memorial Cemetery.
