Alma Ophelia (Caldwell) Bryant was called home on July 29, 2020. Born to parents Luther and Viola Caldwell of Griffith Creek Community. Ophelia later married Harley Bryant and moved to the Pocket Community to farm and live a life of service.
Mrs. Bryant received her teaching degree from M.T.S.U. and as she began teaching, she joined and worked to help the community start what is now Chimney State Natural Area.
Mrs. Bryant also served several years with Marion County Extension service where she helped to ensure that Agricultural Education had its place in rural classrooms, as well as in everyday life, where she helped the Soil Conservation Department with reclaiming old mine areas. She also helped with several other farm programs.
In recent years, the service opportunity Mrs. Bryant enjoyed most of all was Sequatchie Valley Cares Program, in which, she felt helped a lot when they needed it most.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Viola Caldwell of the Griffith Creek Community; brother, Odus Caldwell of Griffith Creek and husband, Haley Bryant.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dwight) Inglis; son, Clyde (Brenda) Bryant of North Augusta, GA; granddaughters, Katrina Bryant (Tim Harvey) of NM, Kelly (Shane) Echols of OH and Kyra Inglis of Whitwell; grandsons, Curtis Inglis and Travis (Kathy) Bryant all of Whitwell; great grandchildren, Sara Bryant and Harley Echols.
Graveside services will be 2PM, Sunday, August 2, 2020, in the Sequatchie Memorial Gardens with Reverends Ronnie Vandergriff and Phillip Layne officiating.
