DORIS LOUISE (GRAHAM) CONLEY

Doris Louise Graham Conley, age 93, went home to Jesus, November 30, 2022, after a short illness.  She was born in Jasper, TN, on November 2, 1929, the fourth child of Alton and Josie Graham.  In 1939, Doris became a Christian and began her life of service to the Lord.

After graduating from Jasper High School, she attended UTC, Carson Newman College and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  While attending Carson Newman College she met her future husband, Charles Conley.  Charles was also a pastor and after college and marriage they moved to Louisville, KY where he graduated from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  Doris became a mother and a pastor’s wife and helped in all activities at church.  Over their 52 years of marriage Charles and Doris pastored churches in Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Connecticut, and Tennessee.  Along with being a mother of five children and working various jobs at church, Doris also taught school and worked as a Hospital Supervisor in Sardis Mississippi, and was President and Executive Director of Women Missionary Union for 6 New England States from 1976 to 1983.  She was a member of the Women’s Home Mission Board.  In 1985 they moved to Whitwell and she became Chaplain of the Jasper Garden Club, a Surrogate Parent and volunteered at Grandview Hospital.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Revered Charles Conley; daughters, Deby and Charlotte; parents, Alton and Josie Graham; brothers, Edward, Buford and Jere; sisters, Betty Joe, Mary Nell and Bernice; grandson, Caleb Conley. 

She leaves behind her three sons, Jere and wife Janie, Mark and wife Cindy, Stephen and wife Lucy; son-in-law, Bob Hart; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jewell Graham; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Doris moved to Creekside Assisted Living in Murfreesboro, TN in June of 2021.  She had many friends and enjoyed her time with them.  We would like to thank Alive Hospice for taking care of mom.  She was a member of Whitwell  First Baptist Church and if you would like to give a gift in lieu of flowers in memory of her, please send to her church.

Family will receive friends, 11AM-1PM, Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the First Baptist Church of Whitwell.

Funeral services will be 1PM, Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the First Baptist Church Chapel.  Interment to follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
