Daniel Hiram Rush

Daniel Hiram Rush, age 93, of Powells Crossroads, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026. He was born on January 19, 1933, in Cedar Vale, Kansas.

Dan grew up on a farm in Kansas, attended the University of Tulsa, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, and served in the Army for two years at Fort Chaffee. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Alice Hay. He enjoyed a successful career as a petroleum engineer throughout the Midwest, and after retiring from Northern Natural Gas, he taught at two Christian schools. He and Alice eventually moved to Tennessee and homeschooled some of their grandchildren, and frequently traveled to spend time with their children and grandchildren in other states. A devoted man to his Lord Jesus Christ, he ministered through the work of Gideons for several years, enjoyed mathematics, horses, hunting, fishing, making his family laugh with his witty idioms, studying his Bible, and spending time with his wife whom he deeply loved and showed it well. In his later years he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and deeply appreciated his church family at South Whitwell Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, William Franklin Rush, and his beloved mother, Cleo Allie Rush.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Alice Ann Rush of Powells Crossroads, Tennessee; loving children, Rebecca Jane (Steve) Nichols of Portage, Michigan, Mary Susan (Larry) Meade of Powells Crossroads, Tennessee, John Franklin (Ruth) Rush of Cosby, Tennessee, Jessica Ann (Brett) Holland of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, and beloved nephew, Lynn Charles (Jenny) Schuyler of Ponca City, Oklahoma; loving grandchildren, Daniel Nichols, Cynthia (Nichols) Vest, David Meade, Sarah (Meade) Leach, Michelle (Meade) Tipton, Dylan Meade, Ethan Rush, Abigail Rush, Bethelle Rush, Mattie Rush, Courtney Holland, Chloe Holland, Clayton Holland, Caylie Holland, Katie Schuyler, Megan Schuyler, Jarod Schuyler; and 16 precious great-grandchildren. In addition, his beloved cousin Connie Richardson, and his beloved sister-in-law, Pamela Johnson.

Dan will be remembered for his gracious wisdom, humble spirit, steady presence, quiet strength, constant gratitude, and sincere faith. His legacy lives on through his dedication to Jesus Christ, his love for Alice, his delight in his family he loved so dearly, and the life-changing impact he made on the lives of those who knew him. His accomplishments were in what mattered most in life, and we will remember and be grateful for that legacy.

The family will receive friends at South Whitwell Baptist Church at 111 South Oak Street, Whitwell, Tennessee, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. CDT.

The funeral service will be held at South Whitwell Baptist Church following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. CDT. A family graveside service will take place later in the week.
