Jerline Akers age 85 of Whitwell went home to be with her Lord, Monday, April 4, 2022. Ms. Akers was a Christian and spread the gospel in song with her husband under the name “Singing Gospel”. Mother was such a beautiful lady, sweet and kind to everyone she met, She is the last to leave her happy home here but to be in her new heavenly home, now to see her JESUS, to see her beloved husband, David Akers, her beloved children, Tresea Pickett, Veda Thomas; her beloved brothers, Bill Thacker, JT Thacker; her beloved sisters, Violet Thacker, Vera Mae “Billie” Rollins; grandson, Eddie Dotson; her mother, Bonnie Mae Downey Thacker; her father, Ed Thacker; and the father of her children, Onix Clarence Green.
She loved going to church, serving the Lord. Her first home church was the Church of God in Whitwell at a young age. She loved playing her doghouse bass, singing and playing music with Dad, singing for benefits, nursing homes, etc. “Singing Gospel” was a traveling gospel group that traveled all over Tennessee.
Those left to cherish her memories are children, Vicki Green (Ernest Curry), grandchildren, Holly (Cody) Smith, McKenzie Smith, Justin Green, Christy Cooley, Steven Cooley, Ritchie Vaughn, Daniel Britton, Corey Smith & Dustin Smith; Son-in-law, Sammy “Boxer” Pickett: several great grandchildren and great great grandsons and granddaughters; special uncle, Charles (Linda) Downey of Branson, MO; special nieces, Debra Cox, Lisa (Wayne) Payne, special nephews, Jerry Thacker, Ricky Joe Thacker, Ernie Thacker, Cindy and Wendy Rollins.
Special friends are so many.. but to name a few.. Paul David Webb, William Hatfield, Bro. John and Sis. Jo Yeoman, Wanda Sue Bracken, Janice Boston, Ray and Vicki Cathey, Jonathan and Juanita Lawson, Pastor Danny and Sister Debbie Chance.
Family will receive friends 12-6PM, Thursday, April 7, 2022. No funeral service with a private burial at a later date.
