J.W. Jay Ruth

J.W. “Jay” Ruth was owner-operator of J.W. Ruth and Son Construction and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 917. He was a member and deacon at Layne’s Chapel Church. Jay enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and especially his great-grands.

Jay Ruth age 82 of Whitwell, passed away Thursday, November 30, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman & Irene Ruth; brother Junior Ruth; sister Ruby Johnson.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 63 years Joyce Ruth; son Greg (Glenda) Ruth, daughter Rocky (Greg) Cookston; four grandchildren Dana Cooley, Dusty (Brittany) Ruth, Jaya (Jake) Smith, Tyler (Katlin) Cookston; four great grandchildren Baylee and Catee Ruth, Paislee Cookston and Navie Jay Smith; two sisters Barbara Layne and Ann Warren; brother-in-law and sister-in-law James and Bonnie Kilgore; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Adoration Hospice for their kindness, care and support. They were truly a godsend.

Graveside Service 12PM, Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Laynes Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Larry Campbell officiating.
