LUTHER DODSON

Luther Dodson Jr (age 79), from Whitwell, TN passed away in the early morning hours on St. Valentines Day, 2023. Luther was surrounded and cared for by his family at the time of his passing. He was born on August 15th, 1943.  He was a loving father, hunter, fisherman and good friend to all who knew him.  He was well known among local yard sale and flea market enthusiast as one of the best wheeler and dealers in the world.  His sense of humor and good nature were always the first to shine. As well as, his knowledge of antiques and things he called treasures.

Luther served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, receiving several awards including the Air Force Achievement Medal, Airforce Commendation Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He received his Honorable Discharge April 6th 1969 where he returned to his town of Whitwell, Tn.

He was preceded in death by Luther Oxford Dodson (father), Emma Edna Pyburn Dodson Bowman (mother), William Leonard Bowman (step-father), Myra Joy Powell (sister) and Mary Joan Bryant (sister).

Luther is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Sue Hammers Dodson, children Tiffery Duane Dodson (Brenda Fish Dodson), Jacqueline Lynn Dodson Garner (Byron “Chad” Garner), Luther Calvin Dodson (Laura Ann Johnson Dodson) and four grandchildren, Harrison Tate Garner (Brittany Olton Garner), Lauran Kaitlynn Dodson, Isaac Johnson Dodson and Christian Tye Garner.

Luther is also survived by his brother, William Leon Bowman (Bonnie Reed Bowan) and many nieces, nephews, In-laws and friends.

Family will receive friends 4-8PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2023  and 10-12noon, Thursday, February 16, 2023.

Funeral services will be at 12noon,  Thursday, February 16, 2023 in the funeral home chapel.  Interment at Red Hill Cemetery.
