Mildie Lousie “Susie” Shadrick Bryant born April 7, 1928, went home to be with the Lord on March 1, 2025, at NHC Sequatchie, surrounded by those she loved and those who so, loved her.
She was born in Tracy City, TN to the late Alvin and Ola (Shrum) Shadrick. She grew up for the most part in Grundy and Marion County. She married the love of her life, George Melvin Bryant. They had a beautiful life together and marriage of 63 years, before Melvin passed away in 2012. They had 3 wonderful children, Ronnie, Brenda and Dwight Bryant. They raised them in a home with a lot of love honor and respect. They taught them to value family, work hard and have good morals and carried those teachings on to their grandchildren, great grandchildren and great – great grandchildren.
Mildie, along with her husband Melvin, owned and operated Bryant Grocery in the Pocket Community for over 26 years. Countless friendships were made, at that little store over the years. Many fond memories are shared from the small community, of the good times, love and kindness at Bryants Grocery.
Susie, was a member of Green’s Chapel Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and gentle, kind soul to all.
She is survived by her son, Ronald (Darlene) Bryant of Ootlewah, TN, and Dwight (Judy) Bryant of Whitwell, TN; grandchildren, Marty (Darcie) Bryant, Jamey (Yvonne) Bryant, Kristy (David) Long, Melanie (Jim) Long; great grandchildren, Matthew Bryant, Darina Bryant, Delanie Bryant, Brandon Bryant, Riley Sartin, Bryant Long, Carley Summerford. Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Ola (Shrum) Shadrick; brothers, Layden Shadrick, Wendell Shadrick, Johnny Shadrick, Jimmy Shadrick; husband, George Melvin Bryant; daughter, Brenda Johnson; grandson, Barry Roberts.
As the years grew long and as time quickly went by, with every generation that came, Susie’s love grew bigger, stronger and her heart was even more gentle and kind.
The family would like to express immense gratitude to Linda Shadrick, Rose Johnson and the staff at NHC Sequatchie for the compassionate care, love and kindness Susie received during her last years and months of her life.
